this is an update on the 9'3 i made last year. love the 9'3, very pinched rails, super responsive and surprisingly stable on the nose. i wanted a little more volume this time around. kept the same template and bottom contours and kept the pinched rail in the tail, but added some volume to the forward and mid rail, a bit of width, thickness and length. got to surf it in perfect loggin waves a couple weeks ago and it did everything i asked of it! stoked!

this one's got the same template as my 6'6 whale bonzer, an inch shorter and a hair narrower throughout. also a touch more rocker for a bit more critical surf. flat deck and double concave within a single through the fins. not for me but i'll get to ride it and am interested in how it goes compared to my bonzer.

and check the reflection of the clouds in the 1st photo!

since first seeing footage of cheyne horan surfing the lazor zap in the eighties i've been intrigued. his surfing was unreal. lately there's been alot of buzz about geoff mccoy's astron zot and i've spent some time looking at his designs and ideas. this is the result of that inspiration. super wide tail, bellied entry, soft rails throughout. still looking for a more suitable fin... 1st choice would be a winged keel(anyone know where to get one?), but i have a few to try in the meantime.

laminated the 5'9 a few days ago. i use a graduated cloth schedule, reinforcing the tail are, which due to concave deck and single concave in the bottom is very thin, and keeping it light up front.

yes, that's zep in the background. i got to see robert plant and the band of joy a few weeks ago...awesome. don't miss it if they come to your town.

i met thomas on the beach in mexico the year i started making surfboards. after a few days, he invited me over to the shack on the beach that he was using as his studio, preparing for a big art show. while we talked he drew me an awesome logo, i was stoked! a few days later i offered to make him a board. he declined, saying he'd wait til i got a few more under my belt. "like maybe 100" he said. good decision, thomas! and thanks again.

i've been thinking about a mini log for a couple of years and finally, after seeing photos of tyler's snub nose mini's, got to it. hoping to throw it on a rail in some harder turns and still be able to sneak to the nose through those perfect sections. lot's going on here....deep nose concave flows all the way through the wide point and blends to a double w/ some vee, soft rails but w/ a bit of edge at the apex in the tail, super thick at center and pretty thin nose and tail.

i want this one! it's begging for good surf. increased rocker, bonzer concave 2+1, a little rolled entry vee, flat deck and hard rails off the tail. the bottom and rails are opaque white w/ a hand rubbed finish, clear polished deck and some interesting resin work. watch out for pat coming through the backdoor! 6'6 14 1/8 x 20 1/4 x 14 3/4 x 2 1/2

while waiting for a new shipment of blanks, i decided to carve out a log i've been thinking about for awhile. i had the chance to surf an older anderson "dp" model in mexico this winter. i was impressed, lot's of drive, good noserider, super versatile and fun. i took note of it's characteristics and blended them w/ my classic log model and came up w/ the "bp" model. it's got an extended nose concave, a bit more vee, a wider, thinner diamond tail and more pinched rails. resin stripes and pins, volan knee paddle patch, clean and simple. this one's available unless a we get a clean little swell and i wax her up paddle out.

this one's a combo of a few themes i've been working on lately. a bit of mini sims combined with a more standard fish. it has a lot of belly in the entry going to a hard rail at the fins and with a big single concave. it's also got a deep concave deck, thanks to the canadians! i've been surfing it plenty and can't get enough. very smooth and loose, trims nicely and paddles like a dream. i also had my first ever session at rincon on this board a few days ago. good choice!

me and some friends were lucky enough to receive citations for surfing within 500ft of this pier last night. $25.....i think it was worth it.

today is the 5th day of decent, clean surf. wind has been offshore the whole time....rare on the north carolina coast.

this is closest thing to a "shortboard" that i've had since 1994 when i bought my last thruster. it was a good one, a 6' 8 parmenter stubb vector. still have it. it's also the 1st clear board i've had in years. it's a mdi blank though and gives a little champagne color. headed coastal in the morning and hope to try it out.
